Day 21: NaNoWriMo

Less than ten days, huh? The month is drawing to a close.

It’s the weekend, so for most of us now is our time to write. So what can we do to survive until the finish line? Take it from me, there is nothing more infuriating than failing by one point on a test.

For me, I’m working on anything that’s not near completion. The creation phase of anything is most productive for me, be it an outline or a scene. As of right now, outlines are done. There’s very little left to create from thin air. I have plots, characters, twists, and a few turns. So I’m focusing on scenes. Sometimes action scenes. Maybe exposition scenes.

Don’t get me wrong, I know I’m on borrowed time. Each of my word count pads are long gone. Blog posts? Finished. Outlines? In the bag. New characters? I have too many and I’m already killing them in terrible ways.

The final 20% of any project is the most difficult for me, and I assume others as well. It’s that time where there can be no more to added. NaNoWriMo’s last 20% stretch is on the 24th. This weekend we have a couple more nooks and crannies we can get at.

Also, just a note, grab a big box of coffee, because on the 24th we’re going to need it.
