Day 10: NaNoWriMo

Write something different today. Hell, do something different today.

Are you OK? Are we OK? Is that an OK thing to talk about?

It’s day ten, and many people are on the same thing since day one. I don’t know about you, but I was born in the ADD generation. I need my movies to be no longer than ninety minutes, my YouTube videos at three minutes, and my songs catchy and somewhere around two minutes. Somehow I finish books. Go figure.

Focus is good. Staying with a project until it’s finished is good. Getting bored by looking at the same document may not be a problem for you, but if it is, try and jump around a little.

On Google Drive I keep a folder just for ideas. I store them so I don’t forget any other the wacky things that enter my brain. The folder contains thirty-one different projects from the past three years. I don’t work on all of them, but it’s nice to be able to pick and choose from the lot.

The Wildstar series came from that pile, although it was smaller back then. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write. When I read my early outlines, I fell back in love with it, and wrote for nearly a year refining the concept.

If the momentum seems like it’s lacking due to attention, try to spice things up.
