Day 14: NaNoWriMo

I’m going to get on your case again to backup all your work. I’ll do it until I’m blue in the face.

My local NaNo members know my mantra for the month, “We’re here to be tired together!” I work a 9 to 5 grind, just like everyone else, and I make sure to attend local write-ins at 6:30PM. We all sit there together and write. The usual time we leave is 9PM or 9:30PM. After I leave, I usually try to hit another 1,000 words while I’m at home.

We all are pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. What should be taking place is constant positive feedback. We put in 1,000 words in a day, and we have 14,000 to admire. Our stories and characters are taking shapes in ways we never thought of at the beginning of the month. Don’t break the cycle.

Losing all our work is a variable we always have to contend with. There is a chance your computer just dies right now for no good reason. The HDD just says, “I’m out!” and you’re stuck cursing the at the extended warranty sticker.

There is nothing more secure than backing up your hard work. There is nothing more satisfying than attaining that peace of mind. Save to the Cloud. Save on a thumb drive. Save to another thumb drive on your keychain. Do it.
