Sleep in. Hell yeah!
That’s a strange bit of writing advice as we rush to reach our daily word count. We don’t sleep as much as we should. It’s a real problem, and one we may unintentionally be making worse in a stressful month.
Reaching the daily or monthly word count shouldn’t be at your expense. Don’t worry if you cannot reach your word count. This month should be a time of increased fun, not increased stress. We have more than enough distractions we can get rid of to make that writing time. TV, music, and video games are all prime candidates.
I love watching YouTube videos, but this month I’m really going to keep an eye on my consumption. Am I feeling guilty about not writing enough? If that’s the case of cut out a little YouTube time instead of waking up earlier.
There’s no reason to cut out the good stuff. We can still spend time with family and friends; no reason to become a hermit. We can still see the new movies. We can keep our video games. All these things help us relax and unwind after a difficult day.
This month we should ask ourselves, “Am I overindulging or am I taking what I need on this particular day?” It may very well be the case we need a day to watch Netflix. On Thanksgiving we should spend all day with her family have been a good time. We have to be careful about being needlessly self-critical and letting the workaholic in us take the wheel. It harms us to unlearn relaxation.
What a better way to do that than by going to bed on time?
