NaNoWriMo 2014: Day 6

You know how I talked about getting out of the house yesterday? Yeah, more of that today.

Do your best to not write consistently in the same place. Some writers need a set place and time to work, but I’m not one of them. I get bored easily and that negatively impacts my writing. What I do is go to different cafes, bookstores, coffee shops, and libraries when I feel trapped.

A Super-Target is five minutes away from where I live. For those who don’t know, that’s a Target store with everything inside of it, including coffee and fast food restaurants. Write in the coffee shops or cafeteria areas. It works, and it’s really weird at first. The point is to get out of your comfort zone to boost your thinking process.

Where as being at home your brain turns off and goes automatic, being inside a Target is strange and keeps you alert. It spurs the brain to be active and push through that tough chapter/paragraph/section. Try and mix it up, because it’s easy to become cozy in a new environment.

That’s it for today. Keep on writing everybody, I’m right there with you.
