New Digs

Well, this is new…

Update time. Website and books. The website is finally upgraded and back in action! We’re running on WordPress, so book covers are clickable to go to a store now. Speaking of books, we have updates regarding that in the second half of this post.

I’ve used the dot com version of WordPress, and I’ve run on Google’s Blogger for many years. The cloud version of WordPress always had nagging issues, so I left it. It’s WordPress with significantly less functionality. In fact, Blogger has been long a favorite of mine. Powered by Google’s servers, no charge for domain linking, and actually pretty fun to customize the look of a website.

Either way, both did the basics. But I needed more.

The through-line in my life for the past year has been to create what I want, how I want it, in the way I want it. A self-hosted WordPress website helps in that regard.

And I’ve always said that someone’s digital real estate is so important today. Right now, people allow Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Instagram to run things for them. These services, at any time and for any reason, can turn on an individual. Such as Blogger censoring art, Twitter banning and suspending users, photos and art stolen on Instagram, Facebook charging to reach an individual’s audience.

As a result, this website is changing a bit.

Newsletter
Since the spring I’ve been playing around with a monthly newsletter. The question I ask myself, for the newsletter and most everything I do is, “What is unique to me that other people can really enjoy?”

The answer was books. Free books! Books on sale! My books? Sometimes!

Considering how much I look for ebooks on sale, I figured to include that under Recommendations. A quick universal book link and people can pick up the same books I do. This is alongside any updates or new releases I put out in the main body of text.

Blog
What does a blog look like nowadays? That’s a good question. I don’t know. The want for written content has decreased as visual mediums have taken over. Video for YouTube. Adjacent to video is streaming with Twitch. Photography for Instagram. Radio for podcasts. News has been upended by Twitter.

The world is in flux, but blogs have always somehow stuck around, so I will too. Book articles. Review articles. Cool links and snippets. I don’t know. We’re going to go and keep things comfortable. Let’s see where we end up.

Upcoming Books
New books are on the way. One is nearly finished. Has been nearly finished for some time now. 2018 and 2019 were big years for me. Big years with little writing. It reminded me how finite our time is. And our time with happiness can be cut short when our time is cut down.

I learned how people reprioritize their life when bad news hits. The change happens in everyone. That realization alongside seeing the chase of fake happiness affected me. I’ve been spending more time with my favorite people while I still can and while I still have them.

Storytelling makes me genuinely happy. Tyyr’s quest through depression and anxiety in a grim dark medieval kingdom in Fragile Nights is always in my head. I still constantly plan more for Alana and Karlyn Wildstar’s bounty hunting adventures in Wildstar. I’m back to writing this month, because my life allowed me to again. Unexpected stories are taking place, and I hope you all will enjoy them.

That’s all for now from the land of the living :3
